We will take the luck o’ the Irish today! First dose of Chemo made Liz a bit nauseous yesterday afternoon. After that she had her second dose of chemo around 6:30…took some anti-nausea meds with the second dose and that seemed to help until about 2:00 am when she felt nauseous again. Hemoglobin staying steady…

Liz completed her second radiation treatment this morning, and around 11:30 am got her first chemo dose. Another dose tonight. If the bleeding stops, we can hopefully go home tomorrow. CCM

First things first, let me share Liz’s medical updates. Last night (Thursday) she continued much as she had on Wednesday. Lots of blood loss, lightheadedness, weakness. That continued through the night. Her hemoglobin levels hovered around that low end threshold to need another blood transfusion, and in the end she got a third unit overnight.…

Update to Liz’s care today… She is currently taking on extra fluids and about to receive a third unit of blood. At 12:15 pm she will get a flex sigmoidoscopy which should tell her care team if there is any bleeding coming from something other than the tumor. She has to be put under for…

Last night was rough. I continue to have bloody bowel movements. After my fourth episode, I felt weak, clammy, and lightheaded to the point of needing assistance back to my hospital bed (which is a total of like 7 steps). My blood pressure had dropped 75/45 and my heart rate was elevated. I was not…

We’ve got some great news, some good news and some bad news. The great news, and a reason to celebrate – the MRI confirms the spot on Liz’s liver is not malignant…no stage IV. The good news is that chemo/radiation starts tomorrow, instead of Monday. The bad news is that she passed some more blood…

Liz took one whole unit of blood over the course of late morning and early afternoon. MRI was backed up so it became another waiting game. The nurse came in to draw blood for another Hemoglobin check and while she was in the room, MRI called to come get her. 24 hours since Liz last…

Liz’s hemoglobin numbers dropped enough that they are now giving her a unit of blood. There hasn’t been any additional bleeding since about 5:00 pm yesterday, so there is optimism we may get to go home today. Good and bad news on the imaging front – bad news being the PET scan will be rescheduled…

Liz stayed overnight in the PCU so her blood levels could be monitored. Her hemoglobin levels continued to drop overnight, down to 7.1. Now this could partially be because she is receiving IV fluids, which will dilute the red blood cell counts. Regardless of how, if that number drops below 7 they start talking about…
