You’ve Got Our 6

I’ve been writing this off and on since Friday night and even now that I’m posting it, I still don’t think it sufficiently represents how I feel.

These last few weeks as the news of Liz’s diagnosis started to break amongst the communities around us, the amount of love and support sent our direction has been borderline overwhelming (in a good way). Family, co-workers, neighbors, the kids’ school, our gym families both old and new…If I named every person who has lifted us up so far I’d exceed the character limit.

The term “I’ve got your 6” originates from the military – pilots would “get each others’ 6” (referring to the position on the clock, 12 being straight ahead and 6 being directly behind)…meaning “I’ve got your back.” “I won’t let anything sneak up behind you.” “I will keep you safe.”

I know it’s early in the journey, and I know all of you will still be here when the treatment stretches on, the fatigue and frustration set in, when despair and worry threaten to take over…because if I’ve learned anything this week, it’s that you have our 6. Thank you.
